Canada Perspective’s editorial policy is governed by Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy, who has final authority over all published content and editorial standards. The publication is owned by Northern Beacon Media Inc., an Ontario corporation (Ontario Business Registry number 1003194827), with its registered office at Unit 12, 95 King Street East, Toronto, ON M5C 1G4. This policy outlines how we produce, label, and oversee every piece of journalism on our site.
Who is responsible for Canada Perspective’s editorial content?
Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy is directly accountable for all editorial decisions, publication approvals, and corrections. She is supported by Managing Editor Marc Tremblay, who oversees the daily newsroom and headline review, and by a team of specialized editors and fact-checkers. Northern Beacon Media Inc. provides operational support but never directs editorial conclusions. Any concerns about editorial content should be directed to Catherine Roy at catherine.roy@canadaperspective.org.
The editorial team includes five named editors and correspondents, each with defined responsibilities: Marc Tremblay (Managing Editor), Hannah Walsh (Municipal Affairs Editor), Kevin Sullivan (Community & Events Correspondent), Jessica Morin (Provincial Affairs Editor), and Andrew Leblanc (Standards & Fact-Checking Lead). Full biographies are available on our Our Team page.
How do we distinguish news, opinion, features, sponsored and affiliate content?
Every article on Canada Perspective carries a clear label that identifies its type: news, opinion, feature, sponsored, or affiliate. News reports are factual accounts based on verified sources. Opinion pieces are explicitly labelled as such and reflect the views of the named author. Feature articles provide in-depth analysis and are marked as features. Sponsored content is clearly labelled “Sponsored” and is produced in collaboration with an advertiser; it never influences our editorial coverage. Affiliate links are disclosed within the article or in a footer note, and they do not affect editorial judgement.
We maintain a strict separation between editorial and commercial operations. Commercial partnerships, including sponsored content and affiliate relationships, are governed by our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and Sponsored Content Policy. No commercial arrangement can determine the conclusions or framing of any article.
What transparency measures do we apply at the article level?
Each published article includes the byline of the named writer, the date of publication, and an editor’s note if any significant changes are made after initial posting. Articles that involve corrections carry a prominently placed correction notice, linked to our Corrections Policy. Fact-checking is performed by Andrew Leblanc’s team before publication, and sources are cited whenever possible. We also disclose any conflicts of interest, such as when a writer or editor has a personal connection to a story’s subject.
Readers can see the author’s professional background by clicking the byline, which links to a brief biography. If an article includes affiliate links or sponsored elements, those are flagged at the top or bottom of the piece. Our goal is to give readers full context so they can assess the reliability and independence of each story.
How is Canada Perspective funded and what ensures editorial independence?
Canada Perspective is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and content licensing. All revenue sources are transparently documented on our Ownership & Funding page. Northern Beacon Media Inc. holds full ownership, and no external funder or advertiser has editorial control. Sponsored or commercial material is always clearly labelled, and editorial decisions are made solely by the newsroom under Catherine Roy’s oversight.
Our editorial independence is further safeguarded by a strict policy: commercial relationships never determine which stories we cover or how we report them. The advertising sales team operates separately from the editorial team. If a sponsor or advertiser requests coverage, the request is handled through the sponsored content channel, which is clearly separated from the newsroom.
How do we disclose the use of AI-assisted tools?
AI-assisted tools may support research, drafting, formatting, translation, metadata creation, headline options, summaries, and transcription, but never replace human editorial judgement. Every piece of editorial content is reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication. AI is never used to fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, author experience, or expert profiles. Full details are available in our AI & Automation Policy. Any article that has been significantly assisted by AI tools will include a brief disclosure note.
Our policy requires that any use of AI in the editorial process is documented internally and subject to the same fact-checking and editorial review as any other content. Andrew Leblanc, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, oversees compliance with this policy.
Why do we always attribute articles to named writers?
Attributing every article to a named writer ensures accountability and trust. Readers know exactly who reported and wrote the story, and they can contact the author directly via the email address on the writer’s profile. Named bylines also allow us to track expertise and assign corrections or clarifications to the correct journalist. All contributors are listed on our Our Team page, along with their roles and contact information.
Anonymous or pseudonymous bylines are never used for original news or analysis. Exceptionally, a source may be granted anonymity in a story, but the writer and editor remain fully identified. Each byline link connects to the writer’s biography, which includes experience and contact details.
What is the route for submitting a complaint?
Complaints about editorial content, inaccuracies, or ethical concerns should be directed to Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy at catherine.roy@canadaperspective.org or by phone at +1 416 555 0221. Alternatively, general complaints can be sent to complaints@canadaperspective.org. Our Complaints Procedure details the process we follow, including acknowledgement within two business days, investigation by Andrew Leblanc’s team, and a written response within ten business days. Corrections are published promptly and linked to the original article.
If the complaint relates to a sponsored or affiliate piece, it will be handled by the same process, with an additional review by the partnerships team to ensure labelling and disclosure compliance. We treat all complaints seriously and aim to resolve them transparently.
