Our Story

Canada Perspective was launched by Northern Beacon Media Inc. to address a clear gap in Canadian digital news: a lack of straightforward, practical reporting that explains complex issues without spin or oversimplification. Our team of experienced journalists works under editor-in-chief Catherine Roy to deliver trustworthy coverage for English-speaking readers across Canada and internationally.

Why did Northern Beacon Media create Canada Perspective?

The founders of Northern Beacon Media saw that many English-speaking Canadians were overwhelmed by fragmented, opinion-heavy coverage or had to sift through paywalled outlets for basic policy explanations. Canada Perspective was designed to fill that space with clear, practical reporting that respects readers’ time and intelligence. Every article is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor and fact-checked before publication. We are a self‑owned Ontario corporation (business registry number 1003194827) with no parent‑company editorial interference, and our independence allows us to focus solely on serving the public interest.

Who oversees editorial standards and the newsroom?

Editor-in-chief Catherine Roy is responsible for all editorial standards, publication decisions and corrections. She leads a dedicated desk structure that ensures every piece of content meets our mission of trustworthy Canadian journalism. The newsroom is divided into beats managed by experienced editors: Marc Tremblay, managing editor oversees daily newsroom operations and headline review; Hannah Walsh handles municipal affairs; Kevin Sullivan covers community events and neighbourhoods; Jessica Morin is provincial affairs editor; and Andrew Leblanc leads standards, fact-checking and corrections. Each beat brings specific expertise, and our editorial philosophy under Roy emphasises human judgement over automation—AI tools may assist research or drafting but never replace human editorial approval.

What you can expect from us

Readers will find clear bylines on every story, named sources (wherever privacy or safety allow) and a publicly accessible corrections policy. We publish a detailed editorial policy that explains how we select, verify and present news, and our sources & standards page outlines our approach to sourcing, attribution and fact‑checking. When we make an error, we correct it promptly and transparently. We do not use anonymous sources unless a genuine safety or legal risk exists, and even then the identity must be known to at least one senior editor. Every fact-checked story includes a note of verification, and Andrew Leblanc’s team reviews any reader challenge through a formal correction procedure.

How is Canada Perspective funded?

Canada Perspective is supported by display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing. All sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled, and affiliate links are disclosed. Full ownership and funding details are available on our site, and we commit that commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions. No single advertiser or sponsor can dictate coverage, and our revenue model is designed to sustain independent journalism without compromising integrity. We do not accept funding from political parties or advocacy groups in exchange for coverage.
