Sponsored Content Policy

Canada Perspective (canadaperspective.org) is owned and operated by Northern Beacon Media Inc., an Ontario corporation (Ontario Business Registry number 1003194827). The Editor-in-Chief, Catherine Roy, holds final authority over all sponsored content decisions and ensures compliance with this policy. This page explains how we label sponsored material, the rules governing its production, and how it differs from affiliate links.

What is sponsored content and how is it labelled?

Sponsored content is material paid for by an advertiser or partner that appears on Canada Perspective. Every piece of sponsored content is clearly labelled with the word “Sponsored” or “Sponsored Content” at the top of the page, directly beneath the headline and before the body text.

The label appears in a distinct visual treatment that is immediately noticeable to readers. The sponsoring organization’s name is also disclosed in the same label area. No sponsored content is published without this explicit identification. Readers can always distinguish sponsored material from independent editorial articles.

What rules govern the creation of sponsored content?

All sponsored content must meet the same factual standards as our editorial journalism. Andrew Leblanc, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, reviews every sponsored piece for accuracy, source verification, and compliance with this policy. Sponsored content cannot contain false or misleading claims.

Sponsors are not permitted to influence the editorial judgement of our writers or editors. The editorial team, under Managing Editor Marc Tremblay, retains full control over the content’s substance, tone, and presentation. Sponsored content is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor, and fact-checked before publication. AI-assisted tools may support research or drafting but never replace human editorial judgement; every piece is approved by a human editor.

How is sponsored content different from affiliate links?

Sponsored content involves a direct payment for a specific article or feature, with the sponsor’s name disclosed. Affiliate links, by contrast, are embedded within editorial content and generate a commission when a reader clicks and makes a purchase. Both are disclosed, but they serve different purposes.

Affiliate links are governed by our separate Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure policy. Sponsored content is a commercial arrangement for a specific piece, while affiliate links are a performance-based revenue model. Neither arrangement determines editorial conclusions. Our Editorial Policy ensures that commercial relationships never dictate what we publish.

How does Canada Perspective maintain editorial independence?

Editorial independence is non-negotiable. Sponsors have no role in assigning stories, approving topics, or reviewing content before publication beyond verifying factual accuracy about their own organization. Catherine Roy, as Editor-in-Chief, has the final say on all publication decisions.

Our Ownership & Funding page details all revenue sources, including display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and content licensing. No sponsor can purchase editorial coverage or suppress a story. Any sponsored content that conflicts with our journalistic standards is rejected or removed.

How can readers or potential sponsors make enquiries?

All enquiries about sponsored content should be directed to sponsored@canadaperspective.org. This dedicated email address is monitored by our partnerships team, who can provide rate cards, placement options, and compliance requirements.

For general contact, readers may use the Contact page. Complaints about sponsored content can be sent to complaints@canadaperspective.org, and corrections to corrections@canadaperspective.org. Our Complaints Procedure outlines the process for raising concerns about any content on the site.
