A broad ridge of high pressure over the Prairies is bringing clear skies and near-normal highs, while a Pacific trough continues to push rain into coastal British Columbia. The live conditions above show the range across the country.
What is driving today’s weather pattern?
A strong upper-level ridge centred over Saskatchewan is keeping most of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba dry and mild. Meanwhile, a low-pressure system off the coast of Vancouver Island is funnelling moisture inland, giving the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island a wet start. In southern Ontario, a weak cold front is stirring up scattered showers, especially around Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Residents checking weather Niagara Falls or weather Vaughan will see similar conditions: cloud with a chance of light rain through the afternoon. Farther north, weather Orillia near Lake Simcoe is also seeing isolated showers, while weather Whitby on the north shore of Lake Ontario remains under overcast skies.
What does the short-term forecast look like?
The ridge will slide eastward over the next 24 hours, allowing the Pacific system to weaken. By Thursday, most of British Columbia should see drying conditions. For the central and eastern provinces, a clipper system moving out of the Prairies may bring a few flurries to northern Ontario and Quebec. The weather Canada radar shows a band of light precipitation stretching from Lake Winnipeg to the Ottawa Valley. For a detailed outlook, check the Weather Forecast Canada page.
Why is the Prairies getting so much sun while the coast is rainy?
The ridge acts as a blocking pattern, deflecting Pacific moisture northward. Coastal areas under the trough receive persistent rain, while the interior stays dry and stable.
Is there any severe weather expected today?
No widespread warnings are active. A few local wind gusts near Lake Ontario may reach 40 km/h, but nothing severe. Stay updated via Weather Warning pages.
How can I get the most accurate local forecast?
Environment Canada’s radar and official bulletins are the best source. For quick updates, many rely on weathercp24 or The Weather Network. The live conditions above give a snapshot of major cities.
