Complaints Procedure

Canada Perspective (canadaperspective.org) is committed to addressing complaints about our journalism promptly, transparently, and fairly. This procedure explains how to submit a complaint, how we handle it, and what to expect at each stage. Canada Perspective is owned and operated by Northern Beacon Media Inc., an Ontario corporation (Ontario Business Registry number 1003194827), with its registered office at Unit 12, 95 King Street East, Toronto, ON M5C 1G4, Canada.

How do I submit a complaint?

You can submit a complaint by emailing our dedicated complaints address at complaints@canadaperspective.org. Please include your full name, contact information, the specific article or content in question, and a clear description of your concern. If your complaint relates to a factual error, please provide the source or evidence you believe supports your correction. We also accept complaints by mail to our registered office, but email ensures the fastest response.

For complaints about editorial standards, publication decisions, or potential breaches of our Editorial Policy, you may also contact Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy directly at catherine.roy@canadaperspective.org or by phone at +1 416 555 0221. We aim to acknowledge receipt of all complaints within two business days.

How is my complaint handled?

Upon receipt, your complaint is logged and assigned to the appropriate team member. For factual accuracy concerns, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Andrew Leblanc (andrew.leblanc@canadaperspective.org), reviews the matter against our Fact-Checking Policy. For complaints about editorial judgement or policy, Managing Editor Marc Tremblay or the relevant section editor will assess the issue. We investigate all complaints thoroughly, consulting original sources, interview notes, and editorial records.

We will respond to you with a substantive outcome within 10 business days. If the investigation requires more time, we will notify you and provide an updated timeline. Where a complaint is upheld, we will take appropriate corrective action, which may include issuing a correction, adding a clarification, or removing content. All corrections are published in accordance with our Corrections Policy.

What if I am not satisfied with the initial response?

If you believe your complaint has not been adequately addressed, you may request escalation to Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy. Send your escalation request to catherine.roy@canadaperspective.org with the subject line “Escalation: [your original complaint reference]”. Catherine Roy will personally review the case, including all prior correspondence and investigation notes, and provide a final decision within 15 business days.

This escalation process covers all editorial complaints, including those related to accuracy, fairness, privacy, and adherence to our Editorial Policy. For complaints about advertising, sponsored content, or affiliate disclosures, please see our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and Sponsored Content Policy.

What about privacy and data handling during a complaint?

We treat all complaint correspondence as confidential. Your personal information will only be used to process your complaint and will not be shared outside of Canada Perspective or Northern Beacon Media Inc. without your consent, except as required by law. For full details on how we handle your data, please review our Privacy Policy.
