Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure

Canada Perspective is owned and operated by Northern Beacon Media Inc., an Ontario corporation (Ontario Business Registry number 1003194827), with its registered office at Unit 12, 95 King Street East, Toronto, ON M5C 1G4, Canada. This page explains how we fund our journalism through advertising, affiliate links, and commercial partnerships, and how we maintain editorial independence in all revenue arrangements.

Who owns and funds Canada Perspective?

Canada Perspective is wholly owned by Northern Beacon Media Inc., a Canadian corporation registered in Ontario. The publication is funded through a combination of display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and content licensing. No single funding source controls or influences our editorial decisions. Full ownership and funding details are available on our Ownership & Funding page.

Our editorial mission—trustworthy Canadian journalism that helps readers understand complex issues without spin or oversimplification—is funded entirely through these revenue streams. We do not accept funding from political parties, advocacy groups, or government sources that would compromise our independence. All commercial relationships are transparently disclosed to our readers.

How does display advertising work on this site?

Display advertising appears on Canada Perspective as banner ads, sidebar placements, and in-article units. These advertisements are served by third-party ad networks and are clearly distinguished from editorial content. Advertisers have no input into our news coverage, story selection, or editorial conclusions.

We use standard industry practices to ensure advertisements are relevant and non-intrusive. Readers may see ads based on general content categories or, where permitted, anonymized browsing patterns. We do not sell reader data to advertisers. Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy provide full details on data handling and ad targeting.

What are affiliate links and how are they disclosed?

Affiliate links are special URLs that allow Canada Perspective to earn a small commission when readers purchase products or services after clicking through from our site. These links are used in articles, reviews, and resource pages where they add genuine value for our audience. Every affiliate link is clearly labelled with a disclosure notice, typically at the beginning or end of the relevant article.

Affiliate revenue never determines which products we cover, how we review them, or what conclusions we draw. Our editorial team, led by Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy, makes all coverage decisions independently. If we recommend a product or service, it is because our journalists and editors believe it merits coverage, not because of any financial arrangement. For more detail, see our Sponsored Content Policy.

How does sponsored content work?

Sponsored content is material that is paid for by an advertiser or partner. All such content is clearly labelled with a “Sponsored” or “Paid Content” designation at the top of the page, and it is visually distinct from our regular editorial articles. Sponsored content is reviewed by our editorial team to ensure it meets basic standards of accuracy and transparency, but it does not reflect the views of Canada Perspective’s journalists.

Our editorial staff, including Managing Editor Marc Tremblay and Standards & Fact-Checking Lead Andrew Leblanc, maintain a strict separation between sponsored and editorial workflows. No advertiser or sponsor can influence our news coverage, opinion pieces, or investigative reporting. The Sponsored Content Policy outlines the full guidelines and approval process.

How do commercial partnerships affect editorial independence?

Commercial partnerships—including newsletter sponsorships and content licensing agreements—are governed by written contracts that explicitly prohibit any editorial interference. Canada Perspective retains full control over all editorial content, including headlines, story selection, sourcing, and fact-checking. Our editorial independence is guaranteed by Northern Beacon Media Inc. and overseen by Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy.

We do not accept partnerships that require pre-approval of editorial content, that demand favourable coverage, or that restrict our ability to report critically on any subject. Any partnership that could reasonably be perceived as influencing our journalism is disclosed in the relevant article or section. For inquiries about commercial opportunities, contact advertising@canadaperspective.org or partnerships@canadaperspective.org.

How are corrections and complaints handled regarding advertising?

If you believe an advertisement or sponsored piece contains inaccurate or misleading information, please contact our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead Andrew Leblanc at factcheck@canadaperspective.org or use our Complaints Procedure. We investigate all reports promptly and will correct or remove any content that violates our policies.

Our Corrections Policy applies to all content on Canada Perspective, including sponsored material. We are committed to transparency and accountability in every aspect of our operations, from news reporting to commercial partnerships.
