Environment Canada has active weather warnings across multiple provinces this morning, with the most urgent alerts covering heavy snowfall in northern Ontario and freezing rain risks in southern Ontario. Check the live ranking above for your region’s severity.

Which regions are under weather warnings right now?

Southern Ontario weather warning today includes a freezing rain advisory for areas near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, where ice accumulation could make roads treacherous through the morning commute. Northern Ontario weather warnings today are dominated by a broad snowfall warning stretching from Timmins to Thunder Bay, with totals of 15 to 25 centimetres expected by evening. Out west, British Columbia’s coastal ranges have wind warnings, while parts of the Prairies face extreme cold warnings as a Arctic ridge settles in.

How long will these warnings last?

The freezing rain in southern Ontario is forecast to taper by midday, but the northern Ontario snow event will persist into tomorrow. For a full outlook, see our Weather Tomorrow Canada page. The Prairie cold snap is expected to hold for at least 48 hours, while the B.C. winds should ease overnight. For real-time tracking, the Weather Radar page shows the latest precipitation bands moving east.

What is the difference between a watch and a warning?

A warning means hazardous weather is occurring or imminent. A watch means conditions are possible within 24 to 48 hours. Environment Canada issues warnings for immediate action, watches for preparation.

How do I prepare for a freezing rain warning?

Avoid driving if possible. If you must travel, keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle. Clear gutters and downspouts to prevent ice dams. Check Weather Today for hourly updates on temperature shifts.
