Accessibility Statement

Canada Perspective (canadaperspective.org) is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. This Accessibility Statement outlines our ongoing efforts to meet the requirements of the Accessible Canada Act (ACA) and to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, as enforced through the Canadian Accessibility Standards (accessible.canada.ca).

Who is responsible for accessibility at Canada Perspective?

Northern Beacon Media Inc., the Ontario corporation that owns and operates Canada Perspective, holds overall responsibility for accessibility compliance. The Editor-in-Chief, Catherine Roy, oversees editorial standards and publication decisions, including accessibility-related content policies. Day-to-day implementation of accessibility practices is managed by the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Andrew Leblanc, who coordinates with our technical team to ensure conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

Our registered office is located at Unit 12, 95 King Street East, Toronto, ON M5C 1G4, Canada. For direct accessibility inquiries, please contact our dedicated accessibility team at accessibility@canadaperspective.org or call our main line at +1 416 555 0210.

What accessibility standards do we follow?

Canada Perspective targets conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the technical standard for our digital content. This commitment aligns with the Accessible Canada Act and the Canadian Accessibility Standards published by the Government of Canada at accessible.canada.ca, which serves as the enforcement route for federal accessibility requirements.

We conduct regular internal audits and periodic third-party evaluations to measure our compliance against these standards. Our goal is to maintain a consistent user experience that meets or exceeds the requirements of WCAG 2.2 Level AA across all pages, including news articles, opinion pieces, and multimedia content.

How do we support keyboard navigation and focus?

All interactive elements on Canada Perspective — including navigation menus, links, buttons, forms, and media controls — are designed to be fully operable using a keyboard alone. Users can navigate through the site using the Tab key, with a visible focus indicator that highlights the currently selected element. Skip-to-content links are provided at the top of every page to allow users to bypass repetitive navigation.

We test keyboard navigation across major browsers and assistive technologies to ensure that focus order follows a logical sequence. If you encounter any element that does not respond to keyboard input or lacks a visible focus state, please report it to accessibility@canadaperspective.org.

What measures are in place for contrast and reduced motion?

Text and interactive elements on Canada Perspective meet the WCAG 2.2 Level AA contrast ratio requirements of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. We avoid using colour as the sole means of conveying information, ensuring that links, errors, and status indicators are also distinguishable by text or iconography.

For users who prefer reduced motion, we respect the operating system-level “Reduce Motion” setting. Animations, transitions, and scrolling effects are minimized or disabled when this preference is detected. No content on Canada Perspective relies on flashing or strobing effects that could trigger seizures.

What are the known limitations of our accessibility?

While we strive for full WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance, some areas may present limitations. Third-party embedded content — such as social media widgets, video players from external platforms, or interactive maps — may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We are actively working with vendors to improve these components.

Older PDF documents published before January 2024 may not be fully tagged for screen readers. New PDFs are created with accessibility in mind, and we provide HTML alternatives where possible. If you encounter a specific barrier, please contact accessibility@canadaperspective.org with the page URL and a description of the issue.

How can you report an accessibility issue or request an accommodation?

We welcome feedback from all users. To report an accessibility barrier, request an alternative format, or suggest an improvement, email accessibility@canadaperspective.org. You may also use our general contact form at /about-us/contact/ or call +1 416 555 0210.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a formal complaint through our complaints procedure. All reports are reviewed by Andrew Leblanc, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, and escalated to Catherine Roy as needed. We aim to acknowledge accessibility requests within two business days and resolve them within ten business days.

How does this statement relate to our other policies?

This Accessibility Statement is part of a broader commitment to transparency and accountability. Our editorial policy governs the accuracy and fairness of our journalism, while our complaints procedure provides a formal mechanism for addressing concerns. For details on how we handle user data, please see our privacy policy and cookie policy.

We also maintain policies on AI and automation, advertising and affiliate disclosure, and sponsored content, all of which are accessible from our footer and About Us page.
